Information measures and estimation theory

In recent years, several interesting relationships have been discovered between the minimum mean-square error of estimation in additive Gaussian noise and information measures such as entropy, mutual information and relative entropy. Information theory leads to surprising new results in nonlinear filtering. Conversely, estimation theory enables some of the simplest known proofs of a number of classical Shannon theoretic results.
